Welcome to Paris, a city brimming with charm and history, the perfect gateway to your Plantagenet adventure! If you’d like to arrive with ease, we’re happy to arrange a convenient airport transfer for you from the airport (optional extra). To make your journey even smoother, we can also secure pre-tour accommodation at our designated hotel (optional extra), giving you time to enjoy the magic of Paris prior to the tour beginning.

On the evening before embarking on our journey, we invite you to a warm and friendly Meet & Greet, where you can meet your fellow travellers and begin to connect over a shared love of history. Afterwards, you have the choice to join us for a cozy group dinner at the restaurant (optional extra) or maybe you would prefer to venture out and discover Parisian cuisine on your own.

THURSDAY | JULY 17 | PARIS to ROUEN

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Normandy

Our adventure officially begins with a scenic drive to the enchanting village of Les Andelys, situated beneath the imposing ruins of Château Gaillard, once the fortress and pride of Richard the Lionheart. Immerse yourself in the charm of this medieval village as you wander its cobbled streets, and enjoy the opportunity to savour a delicious lunch at one of the local cafés.

We will then continue on to the historic city of Rouen where we’ll settle in for two nights, giving you ample time to uncover the hidden gems of this remarkable city, including the awe-inspiring Notre Dame Cathedral, resting place of many Plantagenets .

As evening falls, we’ll come together for a delightful three-course welcome dinner, the perfect way to kick off this extraordinary journey through time.

FRIDAY | JULY 18 | ROUEN

Day 2: The Captivating Capital of Normandy

Our day begins with a drive to Bayeux, home to the renowned 70-meter-long Bayeux Tapestry. This incredible artifact, with its intricate needlework, vividly depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England and has endured for over 900 years.

On our return to Rouen, we’ll dive into local history with a group visit to the fascinating Historial Jeanne d’Arc, an immersive museum dedicated to the life and legacy of France’s iconic heroine, Joan of Arc.

This evening is yours to savour at leisure, take your time to enjoy one of Rouen’s many charming cafés or restaurants for dinner.

SATURDAY | JULY 19 | ROUEN to MONT-SAINT-MICHEL

Today, we set off for one of France’s most iconic treasures, the breathtaking Mont-Saint-Michel, a magical tidal island that seems to rise straight from the sea. This world-famous landmark will be our home for the night, offering you the rare chance to experience its beauty as the sun sets and again in the peaceful morning light, free from the usual daytime crowds.

In the afternoon and evening, the island is yours to explore at your leisure. For those eager to reach new heights, a climb to the majestic abbey at the summit is a must. The abbey’s fascinating history and stunning views of the surrounding bay are sure to leave you awestruck. Wander the charming streets, soak in the island’s enchanting atmosphere, and let the unique blend of history and nature captivate your senses.

SUNDAY | JULY 20 | MONT-SAINT-MICHEL to FONTEVRAUD

Day 3: The Plantagenet Legacy and a Night at the Abbey

Our journey today takes us to Le Mans, the birthplace of the Plantagenets. Enjoy exploring the wonders of this historic city. Protected by an impressive Roman wall, the old quarter, aptly named Cité Plantagenet, beckons with its network of cobblestone streets and bustling squares. Don’t miss the magnificent St. Julien Cathedral, where Geoffrey and Matilda married in 1128.

This afternoon, we arrive at possibly the most anticipated stop on our trip… Fontevraud Abbey. Tonight, we have the rare privilege of staying within the Abbey precinct, where we can explore at our leisure. Our dinner tonight will also bring an unexpected surprise.

MONDAY | JULY 21 | FONTEVRAUD to POITIERS

Day 4: In the Footsteps of Henry and Eleanor

After an enchanting evening at Fontevraud Abbey, we continue our journey following in the footsteps of Henry and Eleanor to the impressive fortress of Chinon. Imagine the stories these ancient stone walls could tell; this castle is steeped in history and intrigue.

We'll make a brief stop on the other side of the Vienne River for a perfect photo opportunity, capturing the stunning views of Chinon. Then, we travel to Poitiers, where you will have ample time to explore this beautiful city at your leisure. Enjoy discovering its rich history, charming streets, and vibrant culture.

Prior to dinner this evening, join me in the lounge for a glass of wine and an optional discussion about one of the most fascinating Plantagenet monarchs.

Today, we travel south to a city where history and modernity blend seamlessly. After a brief comfort stop to stretch our legs, we will arrive at the vibrant city of Bordeaux for a delightful 2-night stay.

Upon arrival, you'll have the afternoon and evening free to explore the incredible historic sites and lively atmosphere of this stunning city. Wander through its charming streets, visit its famous landmarks, and soak in the unique ambiance that makes Bordeaux truly special. In the evening, feel free to discover the many cafes and restaurants, finding the perfect spot to enjoy a memorable dinner.

WEDNESDAY | JULY 23 | BORDEAUX

Day 6: A Day of Wine in Bordeaux

No visit to Bordeaux would be complete without experiencing its world-famous wines, and today is dedicated to just that.

Have a sleep in because later in the morning we will head to the renowned wine museum, La Cité du Vin, for an immersive experience in the world of wine. Our journey then takes an intriguing turn with a walk-through of a biodynamic vineyard, where you’ll learn about this unique approach to winemaking.

You'll have the opportunity to taste a variety of exceptional wines, and to culminate this delightful day, we'll enjoy a sumptuous medieval banquet, complete with traditional wines, creating another unforgettable evening.

Today, we journey into the breathtaking Languedoc region of Southern France, heading to the most famous and beloved walled city in the country—Carcassonne.

Upon arrival, you'll have the afternoon to explore this stunning historical city at your leisure. Wander through its ancient streets, discover its hidden corners, and immerse yourself in its rich medieval heritage.

In the evening, get ready for a truly special experience as our accommodation lies within the ancient city walls. This magical setting will create memories that will stay with you long after you return home. Feel free to explore the local cafes and restaurants to find the perfect spot for a memorable dinner.

FRIDAY | JULY 25 | CARCASSONNE - VARETZ

Day 8: Spiritual Musings

As we begin our return journey north, we visit one of the most incredible sites on our itinerary: the cliffside village of Rocamadour. This sacred site, part of the Way of St. James route to Santiago de Compostela, has drawn pilgrims for centuries, who come to pray at the foot of the Black Madonna.

As you walk the narrow streets and traverse the many steps, you'll feel the eerie and mystical presence of those who have journeyed here before.

Tonight as we relax in our beautiful hotel, over a glass of wine, let’s take the opportunity to ponder a perfect day spent steeped in history and spiritual reflection.

SATURDAY | JULY 26 | VARETZ - BOURGES

Day 9: Tranquil Villages and Poignant Legacies

Today offers a relaxing pace, perfect for capturing unforgettable moments with your camera. We begin by immersing ourselves in the serene ambiance of one of the prettiest villages in France: Segur le Chateau. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, searching for the tiny enigmatic clay gnomes playing in the windows and doors. Here, time seems to stand still amidst the historic buildings.

Next, we visit an extremely relevant location for Plantagenet fans, Chateau de Chalus-Chabrol. It was here in 1199, the legendary Richard the Lionheart received a mortal crossbow wound.

Later in the afternoon, we arrive in the beautiful city of Bourges for a relaxing two night stay. Enjoy an evening of culinary exploration as you discover local restaurants and cafes for dinner.

Here, craftsmen employ only materials and techniques from the early 13th century, offering you a firsthand glimpse into the challenges of building a castle without modern technology. Following our return to Bourges this afternoon, you will have more time to relax and enjoy this historic location. In the evening, take your time to find the perfect dinner spot in the heart of this beautiful city.

MONDAY | JULY 28 | BOURGES - PARIS

Day 10: Poignant Tales amidst the Beauty

Today as we begin journeying back towards Paris, we will visit the historic city of Orléans, forever linked with the heroic deeds of Joan of Arc during the Hundred Years’ War. Throughout the city, there are many tributes to this young girl who would win the hearts of the French people. A beautiful city brimming with history and charm, an ideal location to enjoy a bite to eat.

After lunch, we head back to our final destination: Paris, where you can prepare for the wonderful evening ahead.

We have an extra special treat in store for you as we gather for our Farewell Dinner, celebrating the unforgettable experiences and wonderful friendships we have forged along the way. It's a fitting end to our remarkable adventure through time and history.
