The Cliffside Medieval Pilgrimage Village of Rocamadour

Rocamadour, an evocative pilgrimage site for almost 900 years, saw Henry II and his queen arduously conquering the hazardous trail to give thanks to the Virgin for his recovery from illness in 1159. This is just one of many awe-inspiring landmarks you will see during your memorable journey.

As soon as you arrive, your journey begins with a warm welcome. All inbound flights will be closely monitored to ensure a smooth arrival. Once you collect your bags and enter the arrivals hall, a member of our team will be there to greet you and escort you to your hotel.

In the early evening join me for a delightful Meet’n’Greet to get to know your fellow travellers. Afterwards, you have the option to join us for dinner at the Restaurant or explore nearby dining options on your own.

WEDNESDAY | SEPTEMBER 4 | PARIS to ROUEN

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Normandy

Our adventure begins with a scenic drive to Les Andelys, and the ancient ruins of Château Gaillard, once the pride of Richard the Lionheart. Next, we journey to the historic city of Rouen, the capital of the Duchy of Normandy since 912.

In Rouen, we’ll visit the Historial Jeanne d’Arc, a museum dedicated to France’s most famous heroine, Joan of Arc. After this you will have time to explore this incredible city. Don’t miss the stunning Notre Dame Cathedral, the final resting place of many notable Plantagenets. In the evening we’ll gather for a sumptuous three-course welcome dinner, setting the stage for the unforgettable journey ahead.

THURSDAY | SEPTEMBER 5 | ROUEN to MONT-SAINT-MICHEL

Day 2: Tapestry and Tidal Wonders

Our day begins with a visit to Bayeux, home to the renowned 70-meter-long Bayeux Tapestry. This incredible artifact, with its intricate needlework, vividly depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England and has endured for over 900 years.

Next, we journey to the iconic tidal island of Mont-Saint-Michel. Here, you’ll have the extraordinary opportunity to experience one of France’s most famous landmarks in the tranquil morning hours, free from the usual crowds.

For those up for a climb, the abbey at the summit awaits. Its rich history and breathtaking views are sure to leave a lasting impression. Enjoy this unique blend of history and natural beauty as you explore one of the most picturesque sites in France.

FRIDAY | SEPTEMBER 6 | MONT-SAINT-MICHEL to FONTEVRAUD

Day 3: The Plantagenet Legacy and a Night at the Abbey

Today, we journey to Le Mans, the birthplace of the Plantagenets. Spend the afternoon exploring the wonders of this historic city. Protected by an impressive Roman wall, the old quarter, aptly named Cité Plantagenet, beckons with its network of cobblestone streets and bustling squares. Don’t miss the magnificent St. Julien Cathedral, where Geoffrey and Matilda married in 1128.

In the afternoon, we travel south through the picturesque Loire Valley to our much-anticipated stop at Fontevraud Abbey. Tonight, we have the rare privilege of staying within the Abbey precinct. This unique experience allows us to explore the Abbey at our own pace throughout the evening. Prepare to be enchanted by the magical atmosphere of this historic site.

SATURDAY | SEPTEMBER 7 | FONTEVRAUD to POITIERS

Day 4: In the Footsteps of Henry and Eleanor

After an enchanting evening at Fontevraud Abbey, we continue our journey following in the footsteps of Henry and Eleanor to the impressive fortress of Chinon. This was not only Henry II's favourite residence but also the place of his death in 1189. Imagine the stories these ancient stone walls could tell; this castle is steeped in history and intrigue.

We'll make a brief stop on the other side of the Vienne River for a perfect photo opportunity, capturing the stunning views of Chinon. Then, we drive to Poitiers, where you will have ample time to explore this beautiful city at your leisure. Enjoy discovering its rich history, charming streets, and vibrant culture.

Today, we travel south to a city where history and modernity blend seamlessly. After a brief comfort stop to stretch our legs, we will arrive at the vibrant city of Bordeaux for a delightful 2-night stay.

Upon arrival, you'll have the afternoon and evening free to explore the incredible historic sites and lively atmosphere of this stunning city. Wander through its charming streets, visit its famous landmarks, and soak in the unique ambiance that makes Bordeaux truly special. In the evening, feel free to discover the many cafes and restaurants, finding the perfect spot to enjoy a memorable dinner.

MONDAY | SEPTEMBER 9 | BORDEAUX

Day 6: A Day of Wine in Bordeaux

No visit to Bordeaux would be complete without experiencing its world-famous wines, and today is dedicated to just that.

Have a sleep in, and after lunch, we will head to the renowned wine museum, La Cité du Vin, for an immersive experience in the world of wine. Our journey then takes an intriguing turn with a walk-through of a biodynamic vineyard, where you’ll learn about this unique approach to winemaking.

You'll have the opportunity to taste a variety of exceptional wines, perfectly paired with local produce. To culminate this delightful day, we'll enjoy a sumptuous medieval banquet, complete with traditional wines, creating another unforgettable evening.

Day 7: The Medieval Magic of Carcassonne

Today, we journey into the breathtaking Languedoc region of Southern France, heading to the most famous walled city in the country—Carcassonne.

Upon arrival, you'll have the afternoon to explore this stunning historical city at your leisure. Wander through its ancient streets, discover its hidden corners, and immerse yourself in its rich medieval heritage.

In the evening, a truly special experience awaits as our accommodation lies within the ancient city walls. This magical setting will create memories that will stay with you long after you return home. Feel free to explore the local cafes and restaurants to find the perfect spot for a memorable dinner.

WEDNESDAY | SEPTEMBER 11 | CARCASSONNE - VARETZ

Day 8: Mystical Rocamadour and a Night in a Chateau

As we begin our return journey north, we visit one of the most incredible sites on our itinerary: the cliffside village of Rocamadour. This sacred site, part of the Way of St. James route to Santiago de Compostela, has drawn pilgrims for centuries, who come to pray at the foot of the Black Madonna.

As you walk the narrow streets and traverse the many steps, you'll feel the eerie and mystical presence of those who have journeyed here before.

In the evening, we will stay at the enchanting 12th-century Château de Castel Novel in Varetz. This magical setting offers a perfect end to a day steeped in history and spiritual reflection.

THURSDAY | SEPTEMBER 12 | VARETZ - BOURGES

Day 9: Tranquil Villages and Historic Cities

Today offers a relaxing pace, perfect for capturing unforgettable moments with your camera. We begin by immersing ourselves in the serene ambience of one of the prettiest villages in France: Segur le Chateau. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, where time seems to stand still amidst historic buildings.

Next, we visit an extremely relevant location for Plantagenet fans, here at Chateau de Chalus-Chabrol in 1199, the legendary Richard the Lionheart received a mortal crossbow wound.

Later in the afternoon, we arrive in the beautiful city of Bourges. Here, you can unwind at the hotel or explore the city's many delights. Enjoy an evening of culinary exploration as you discover the local restaurants and cafes for dinner.

FRIDAY | SEPTEMBER 13 | BOURGES - PARIS

Day 10: Time Travel and a Bittersweet Farewell

Prepare to turn your dreams of time travel into reality as we embark on a unique journey to explore a medieval castle building site. Here, craftsmen employ only materials and techniques from the early 13th century, offering you a firsthand glimpse into the challenges of building a castle without modern technology. Engage with the artisans, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of this fascinating process.

After lunch, we head back to our final destination: Paris. From the comfort of our coach, you'll have the opportunity to take in the exciting sights of this romantic city, reflecting on the incredible journey we've shared.

This evening, be prepared for a extra special treat as we gather for our Farewell Dinner, celebrating the unforgettable experiences and wonderful friendships we have forged along the way. It's a fitting end to our remarkable adventure through time and history.
